No self-respecting defendant would attend court in other than smart clothes, unless he had been arrested and held in custody until produced. I think one of my tackiest experiences was when a man who had been ranting naked in the local library was brought in wearing only the blanket provided in the police station cells. His escorting officers had no small trouble making sure he did not throw the blanket off during the hearing, which was quite short and simply remanded him in custody for psychiatric examination. He was fully clothed when he came back 3 weeks later and was detained in a secure mental hospital indefinitely. In my naivety, my appointment was at 10.45 and I assumed that would be when I would go in so I didn’t bother to tell my work (my shift started at midday) that I may be late only for me not to be seen until 11.30.

Anyway so you go to court, you dress smartly right? I certainly did as in I wore a suit. Apart from court employees and people’s legal representatives I was the Oligarchy It’s A Big Club And You Ain’t In It Shirt Also,I will get this only one. I couldn’t believe that everyone else was dressed up like they were just planning on spending the day around their mate’s playing Fifa. I hope this doesn’t come across as snobby but I think in a formal setting such as a court, you should at least try to set a good impression. My lawyer… hitting his vape pen 🤦🏽 He actually turned out to be one of the best lawyers I have ever had represent me, but on first impression, at my first appearance and initial introduction and he is vaping in the courtroom. Not gonna lie though…. dude was a trained assassin in that courtroom. Definitely underestimated him, who wouldn’t have though lol. The tackiest thing my ex did in family court was fire his lawyer (his friend) in the court room. That forced the judge to give him yet another extension on our child support case. She asked my ex why did he publicly fire his attorney, the attorney said “it’s ok ma’am. He should get someone more qualified than I am.” Meaning? “Oh, I just found out-I didn’t pass the bar.” The judge told my ex “this isn’t Judge Judy. You bring in anymore drama, I’ll cite you for contempt.”
