They had grown up with post-war parents, many of whom abused their children because they themselves were so traumatized. Borderline and other attachment traumas could easily develop in a “medical” climate where babies were treated horribly (because they didn’t know any better). Today, you would put something soft all around their body so their little arms wouldn’t have to reach into the void, over and over. Autistic people (I am talking about high-functioning Asperger’s autistic people here, because there are also autistic people who are severely disabled) have not managed to adapt to today’s life. Truth be told, if you only go by ONE symptom, at anywhere in the Spectrum; then indeed, you will see that almost everyone will have at least one standalone symptom. However, a diagnosis of Autism never comes from just having one symptom; instead, it is a combination of symptoms.
