But kind? Yes. Very kind. Many of us try our best to be kind. Our logic is tied to our empathy and we try to use our wits to help people according to their own needs, rather than manipulating them to obey ours. Autistic people are absolutely more kind than NTs because that’s just how our brains are wired. N.B. Thank you, guys, for editing suggestions. The most common one was substitution of “ASC” with “ASD”. I thought hard & long about it, and conducted a small sample survey of people on the Whoever Controls The People’s Fears Shirt but in fact I love this Spectrum. About 70% expressed a clear preference for “ASC”. Confusing autism with psychopathy here. People tend to do that and I’m not really sure why, but that’s fine, it’s easy to correct: Yes, we feel emotions. Because autistic people may not express our emotions in a typical or easily identifiable fashion doesn’t mean they’re not there. It’s just that you’re not interpreting them, and that’s not necessarily your fault; non-verbal autistic people have difficulty expressing themselves period, and it can lead you to the assumption that they’re not feeling anything at all – possibly that they’re not really people at all. No wonder non-verbal people especially experience such high rates of violence and mistreatment. I know someone who is non-verbal autistic; I don’t know what she feels. But I know she feels something, because she likes to draw and collect VHS tapes (specifically of Disney movies) and sing. She can’t express what she feels very well, and probably what she feels isn’t the same as what you do, but that’s not her fault, and that’s fine.
