I am English and spent most of my working life working for a large American company. I have met and worked closely with a large number of Americans, some outstanding and some better at telling you how good they are. This, however, is about a trip to Amsterdam a couple of years ago. They do so but grumble loudly about “ this Micky Mouse country” “ Fucking staff that cant speak English properly” etc etc. That evening ,back in Amsterdam we are in a bar having a quiet drink the door opens and in walk six very large American guys, when I say large I dont mean obese just very well built, they get their drinks and sit down close to us. They are happy and noisy and just in a good mood. We get chatting and it turns out they are marines intransit from elsewhere, thay would not say, with a layover in Amsterdam. As my wife and I are getting ready to leave they wanted to pick up our tab as they had in their words” Intruded on our evening” we , of course, would not let them pick up our bill but you could not have met nicer guys. This, I hope, shows that no matter the nationality the good guys outweigh the idiots
